I would like to announce the completion of a major step by the US Forest Service. Today we opened two new play areas on the Potts Jeep Trail with the full cooperation and assistance of the USFS.

The two new area are as follows. The first is directly opposite of Kidney Rock, and the second starts about 40 yards before the dogleg turn in the rock garden (before the overlook). With both these areas you MUST STAY INSIDE the pink tape. Better signage will be coming. Both of these areas will be marked with Black Diamonds once the signs come in. They are not for the faint of heart in Grandma's Buick. I strongly suggest at least one locker and some appropriate sized tires for your vehicle. The area in the rock garden is complete, play away. The area across from Kidney Rock is almost complete, John is going to have some equipment in there to make the fill area in the gap between the rocks wider, right now it is Samurai width with no room for error. He hopes to have this complete before the Meet in the Middle ride.

Keep in mind that the new areas are going to be watched by the USFS. We CANNOT allow them to grow unimpeded. Do not try a "new angle" on the rocks just to be different. Stay within the pink tape. Trees and other growth alongside these areas should not be cut. Do not abuse this.

This is not a guarantee that the trail will stay open forever. If people abuse the trail it is within the USFS's right to do something about it. If you see someone off the trail remind them to Tread Lightly and stay on the designated route. If they fail to adhere please call the USFS law enforcement. If you are not comfortable doing this let me know and I will take of it for you.

I would like to personally thank all of those that made this project work. First and foremost Cindy Schiffer with the USFS for leading us through all of the hoops that were needed in order to make this happen. Also with the USFS, Sheryl Lyles, Barbara Walker, John Hairfield, and Jeff Price. With SWVA4W, Jerry Armstrong, Michelle Behrns, Darryl Moore and Bill Chauncey.

I will be posting some pics and some video later in this thread. (might be tomorrow).

No, see above. The grant work is not complete, we simply got the new areas open.

I thought that was referring to the new area, as that is what this thread is about. Anyway nice job working with the FS on this. I may have to take a run up there next week before my vacation.
